When all you want for Christmas is… to remodel your home!

Marty and I were talking the other night about what we wanted to get each other for Christmas. You may be familiar with this conversation:

Marty: “What are we going to get each other for Christmas?”

Me: “Oh, I don’t know. What do you want for Christmas?”

Marty: “Oh, I don’t know.”

Me: “We should really redo the main floor bathroom.”

Marty: “Before we build the new shed?” (Of course.)

Me: “And the upstairs bathroom for that matter.”

You get the picture.

We often get in the rut of thinking we need to get our spouses a “package they can open” or stockings full of little trinkets. It’s not that those gifts aren’t nice, but putting the money towards a bigger dream is usually more meaningful in the long run.
